Michael King: A Heart of The Blues

Born in Dallas, Texas in 1981, Michael was raised in a musical household where his father, John King, served as his lifelong mentor. Music was priority one (after school, of course). Starting on the drum stool in diapers, Michael began formal piano lessons at age 8, performing recitals until 16. He soon drummed for his church youth group, eventually graduating to the main service.
For over 20 years, Michael honed his craft as a drummer in the Dallas/Fort Worth blues scene, sharing stages with legends like Hash Brown, Texas Slim, Holland K Smith, Shawn Pittman, Joey Love, and more. Though he and his brother dabbled with guitar growing up, it wasn't until age 23 that blues truly touched his soul. With influences like Stevie Ray Vaughan lighting the spark, his enthusiasm for blues has grown into a lifelong devotion to Albert Collins, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Gary Moore and creating his own original blues ballads.
In summer 2023, after his previous band dissolved, Michael picked up the guitar in earnest and formed Michael King & The Icebreakers. He dreams of one day sharing the stage with the likes of Kingfish, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Susan Tedeschi.

The Power of the Blues
Blues isn't just sound, it's emotion in motion.

It lifts you up when you're low, pulls you back in when you're drifting, and reminds you that you're alive.

It speaks the truths we can't always say, carries the weight of our yesterdays, and fuels our hope for tomorrow.

Music is the beat that keeps our hearts beating.
